D.I.Y distressed jeans.

Saturday, 19 July 2014
Just recently I have been opening my wardrobe and feeling very uninspired with its contents. Having a student budget means that I can't just go out and buy new clothes whenever I feel like it so I often renovate old clothes that have been unloved for too long. Sometimes this turns out to be a disaster and I ruin items of clothes but when it works it is marvelous.

Thus introducing my newly renovated distressed jeans! Now being the fail I am I forgot to take a before photo before I started attacking with the scissors but you can picture the washed out plain skinny jeans they used to be. So now I will show you how to achieve this look and all you will need are some unloved jeans, scissors and tweezers and a pencil. Just another disclaimer. I haven't finished these myself, I plan on making them slightly bigger.

Step 1.

Make faint pencil marks where you want your rips to be and start one leg at a time cutting along the line you have made. I have already done the left leg so I shall complete the right one.

Step 2.

Grab some tweezers and start pulling out any individual strands that have been split by the scissors. Then make your way gently pulling out full strips from the denim. If you look carefully at the denim you will see how it is all weaved together and will make pulling out the strands much simpler. This is a long process and requires a lot of patience. You will find that the more strands you pull out the longer the vertical strips of denim will get but you can just trim them down with the scissors.

Step 3.

Once your hole is as big at you like it you can put them into the wash to make the distressed effect look slightly worn or just put them straight on! Tahdahhh! Some old jeans transformed into something loved again.

All of next week I will be doing a skin detox. I will be logging my skin routine each day and will be going a full week without wearing any makeup so be sure to check that out and I will also be posting my progress on Twitter and Instagram.

  1. I've always wanted to do this to my jeans but I haven't had the guts to get cutting! I probably will soon though, when I'm more confident. :)

  2. Trust me you can't really go wrong with ripping jeans! The more torn and tattered they look the better really! :)
